2007 · EA Black Box

skate.

The 2007 original, whose flick-it stick controls reinvented skate games. Today it's mostly played and lightly modded on emulators.

The first skate. came out in September 2007 and replaced button-mash combos with flick-it: the right stick is your feet. It was set in San Vanelona and built by the EA Black Box team that went on to make skate 2 and Skate 3.

Modding today

The original has the smallest modding scene of the three. What exists is mostly:

  • Emulation on RPCS3 and Xenia, which modern mods build on.
  • Console trainers and RTE tools for RGH/JTAG Xbox 360s, often bundled with skate 2 and 3 support.

Its formats are close to skate 2’s and Skate 3’s, so the reverse engineering done for Skate 3 (stream files, RenderWare 4 arenas, collision) is the most likely way into skate. modding. If you’re working on it, tell us and we’ll document it here.
