The 2009 sequel set in New San Vanelona. Its city now runs inside Skate 3 and as a .skate map in the Rust engine.

skate 2 came out in January 2009 and moved the series from San Vanelona to New San Vanelona, a rebuilt city with security guards, movable objects and off-board walking. The engine and world format are close relatives of Skate 3’s, which is why most skate 2 modding now happens through Skate 3.

New San Van in Skate 3

The community New San Van mod puts the skate 2 city into Skate 3 on PS3 and RPCS3. In September 2026, version 1.17 of the PS3 Map Importer converted the whole city to Xbox 360 form for the native PC port: 909 render streams, 908 collision streams and 41,893 arenas, none refused. It loads in the Level Loader with its 45 original freeskate spots, from the Downtown Library to the SVM Peak.

The Rust engine also has a .skate build of New San Vanelona, with its full retail collision archive embedded: 4.6 million triangles in 21,503 clusters.

What doesn’t exist yet

skate 2 has no native recompilation. Its modding is still emulator-first: texture swaps, DLC installs, and trainers on modded consoles.
